Farm Demonstration Network Update 8/22/16

Good morning everyone,

This is my first post on Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance’s Post Board.  So, thank you Jessica Schultz and her staff for their work on this and conservation efforts in the region.

I just wanted to post a short video of Demonstration Farm Producer Greg Nettekoven.  The attached facebook video is of Greg incorporating seed with a German made unit called a Lemken compact disk harrow.  This unit allows for very shallow incorporation of the seed.

The cover crop seed was applied with an air flow unit from a local coop.  Oats, Radish, Berseem Clover, Soybeans and volunteer Winter Wheat are accurately applied after winter wheat was harvested.  The reason for this is speed for planting the cover crop and getting the seeds buried so they can germinate easier.

Greg tried it for the first time last year with great success, so he is trying it again this year.

If any producers have interest in trying this, keep in mind that we now have access to an air seeder that can tie into your implement to incorporate seed.  If interested, you can call me or Andy Kiefer at Outagamie County LWCD 920-832-5044.

Thank you again,

Brent Petersen
