Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance is partnering with the WDNR to recruit volunteers for stream sampling at locations coordinated in the Lower Fox River Watershed.
Specifically, we are looking for a volunteer or volunteer group to pledge to monitor these locations:
- Apple Creek (volunteers confirmed at this site)
- Kankapot Creek (volunteers confirmed at this site)
- Upper Duck Creek (volunteers confirmed at this site)
- Mid Duck Creek (volunteers confirmed at this site)
Volunteers will collect data once a month from May to October, preferably as close to 30 days between sampling events. These months are chosen because they are the primary algae and aquatic plant growing season. Volunteers will collect samples for total phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, and total suspended solids while collecting data for flow and transparency. Samples will then be placed on ice and shipped to the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene. All supplies, training, and shipping materials will be provided. It is expected to be a 12 hour time commitment throughout the year.
Volunteer Training on Saturday, April 28th:
Interested volunteers are invited to attend training this Saturday, April 28th 10-11:00 a.m. at Pamperin Park, 2801 County RK, Green Bay, WI. A brief overview of the program will be provided, equipment will be distributed, and education will be provided on using proper protocol while sampling. Volunteers who have received this training in the past do not need to stay for the entire period, they may pick up equipment and head out.
