In early March, the Winnebago Waterways Program set up shop at Northeast WI Fishin’ Show in Oshkosh. This two and a half day event featured vendors promoting their fishing gear, clothing, boats, ATVs, wildlife art, and in our case, our mission and work. Lake Management Planning efforts were highlighted at the booth by Austin and Chris was also at the event to talk with people about aquatic invasive species. Right before packing up, we pulled the winning raffle ticket for the signed and framed Clay Matthews Packer jersey. Congratulations to the winners Tammy Ording and her son Cayden. Tammy and Cayden are moving into a new home, and the Packer jersey will be the first thing up on the wall in Cayden’s room.

The WWP also hosted three more Winnebago On Tap! events.

On March 14 at Becket’s in Oshkosh, Nick Schneider of Fox-Valley Technical College and Sheila Smith of Winnebago County’s Land and Water Conservation Department teamed up for a talk titled “Exploring Agriculture’s Toolbox to Protect Land and Water Resources.” The two went over the basics of soil health, what farmers are doing to promote soil health, and what that means for our waterways.

On March 22, Fond du Lac’s Green Dragon Brewpub hosted Dr. Maureen Muldoon of UW-Oshkosh. Dr. Muldoon shared her work studying the groundwater resources of northeast Wisconsin. She gave an overview of groundwater geology and shared some eye-opening data that highlighted how vulnerable groundwater can be to contamination.

Lastly, Dr. Bill Mode gave an overview of the ice age history of the Fox Valley Region and The Bar-Lynndale on March 28. His talk went deep into geological time, highlighting the massive sheets of ice that covered our region and the extensive glacial Lake Oshkosh.

At any event the WWP attends or hosts, our goal is to connect with people about our waterways and share our work with them. We thank those that took the time to stop at our table at the fishing show or came out to a Winnebago On Tap! event.
