The workshop was a success! There were approximately 20 people in attendance, all ready to learn about their restoration options. Attendees were from Long Lake (Shawano Co.), Loon Lake (Shawano Co.), and lakes in Oconto County.

The workshop started with an introduction from WAMSCO and Connecting Our Waters. Bob Dumke, Wild Ones – Wolf River Chapter, started the talks off with information on their project in Shawano County and the importance of pollinators. He was followed by Scott Frank, Shawano County Conservationist, who discussed Shawano and Menominee Counties shoreline cost-share programs. Great questions were asked through both talks.

Kay and Orren Fredrick, caretakers of Whispering Pines, spoke next. They discussed their experience and love of the project and the compliments they have received over the years.

Whispering Pines Retreat is a part of Concordia University. They host people from all over the world at this location. They have had many people mention how peaceful and tranquil the site along Shawano Lake is. The native plants and vibe are very soothing.

After the talks, Shanda, president of WAMSCO, gave out the door prizes. We had prizes from Twig’s and Prairie Moon Nursery. Attendees then headed out and walked throughout the shoreline restoration project.

Many people asked questions about the different plants and what other options there may be for projects. There was much interest in completing shoreline projects, making the workshop a success!
