Throughout the month of September, the Winnebago Waterways Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Outreach Team exhibited at multiple events throughout the months of August and September! Here are some of the highlights!

Mills Fleet Farm Fall Outdoor Show 2019

The Winnebago Waterways was on hand on the 4th floor of the 2019 Mills Fleet Farm Fall Outdoor Show in late August. Staff was on hand to answer questions about aquatic invasive species, the lake management plan, and a variety of other topics to all show-goers during this popular autumn event. Chris and interns were on hand with giveaways and invasive species specimens such as sea lamprey, faucet snails, and zebra mussels.

Fondue Fest 2019

Every year, Fond du Lac hosts an event that proves to be both very popular and a very clever tie-in to the city’s name: Fondue Fest! This event hosts a variety of booths including farmers as well as crafts made by local artists. Several Clean Boats, Clean Waters interns and Chris had a booth at this year’s event in downtown Fond du Lac. Attendees to the event arrived and had a lot of great questions for the AIS team. Not many people attending the event were expecting to see a sea lamprey at one of the booths! The event was a great way to interact and talk about invasive species with people who live right next to Lake Winnebago but may not visit boat landings very often.

Rush Lake Open House

Chris had the opportunity to exhibit at the Rush Lake Open House at the beginning of September hosted by the Rush Lake Watershed Restoration, Inc. The open house and lake tour was held at the Nepeuskun Town Hall and had over 150 people visit the open house. Apart from the Winnebago Waterways booth on AIS, UW-Stevens Point, Stantec, and the Rush Lake Watershed Restoration, Inc. also had informational exhibits.
