AIS Program Now Covers Brown, Calumet, Fond du Lac, Outagamie, and Brown Counties
During this time of uncertainty, we are pleased to bring you some exciting news regarding our Winnebago Waterways Aquatic Invasive Species Education and Prevention Program!
In 2019, we were selected by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WNDR) to pilot a cooperative agreement program for aquatic invasive species prevention. This is a test run of a funding program that the WDNR plans to roll out statewide later this year (under NR 193).
Previously, our coverage area for the Winnebago Waterways included Winnebago, Calumet, and Fond du Lac Counties and was primarily focused on the Winnebago Lakes. With this new funding opportunity, Chris Acy, our AIS Coordinator, is able to expand his efforts beyond the Winnebago Lakes into two new counties: Outagamie and Brown.
This 5-county region is a natural expansion of the Winnebago Waterways AIS Program given the aquatic connection of the Winnebago System, the Lower Fox River, and the Bay of Green Bay. To represent the expansion beyond the Winnebago Lakes, the program will now be called the Fox-Wolf Aquatic Invasive Species Program and Chris’s title changed to “Fox-Wolf AIS Coordinator”.
Over this past month, we wrapped up our previous three year WDNR AIS grant for the Winnebago Waterways and began working on the tasks outlined in the new cooperative agreement. Be on the lookout for Chris at your favorite local events, fishing tournaments, and club meetings and make sure to stop and say hi!

The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance staff continue to work to protect and restore our water resources during these difficult times. While we have transitioned to working remotely, we are still conducting meetings (remotely, of course), implementing projects, and planning for the summer. Stay safe!
