Our partners around Shawano County have been working to gain interest in shoreline restoration projects as well as assist in getting them installed for 2020.

The Shawano Area Waterways Management (SAWM) applied for and received a Healthy Lakes grant in 2020 for 5 properties. The SAWM project will see the addition of 3 rain gardens and 1,750 square feet of native plants added around Shawano Lake and the Wolf River.

In addition to those projects funded by the Healthy Lakes grant, one additional shoreline project is going in on Shawano Lake.

Along  the shoreline of Long Lake, one shoreline project is going in. This project will cover, approximately, 390 square feet with native plants.

These projects are using local resources like the Wolf River Chapter of Wild Ones and may be receiving additional funding from the Shawano County Land Conservation Department’s Shoreline Restoration Program and the Long Lake Association.

All of these projects are extremely important in protecting our waters by slowing and stopping run-off. They are creating habitat for pollinators, improving soil health, and creating diversity.

We hope that over the summer of 2020, we will be able to add even more projects around Shawano County.
