PRESS RELEASE provided by Lake Poygan Sportsmen’s club

The Lake Poygan Sportsmen’s Club, Ducks Unlimited, Wisconsin DNR, Radtke Corporation, and Winnebago County Land and Water Conservation Department completed construction for Phase II of the Lake Poygan Breakwall Project on November 17th, 2020. The project is located at the mouth of the Wolf River and will be a continuation of the existing project, Phase I, which was completed in September 2016.

Phase II will extend about 2,300 feet south of the existing structure and will be comprised of two separate segments (Breakwall#2 and #3 in the attached figure). The Lake Poygan Breakwall will help prevent turbid Wolf River water from flowing through the habitat restoration area. It will improve water quality and reduce sediment resuspension by breaking waves and protecting the shoreline from further erosion. Gaps between the structures allow for navigation and water circulation. The structure is marked with reflective markers to be visible during open water and ice-over conditions.
