The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance partnered with the WDNR and counties to advertise for water quality monitors throughout the watershed. Thanks to a news story on Fox 11 in late March, we have been able to cover over 25 different sites from Shawano County to Calumet County.

These sites are a part of many different projects including Water Action Volunteer (WAV) monitoring, Citizen Lake Monitoring Network (CLMN), Wisconsin DNR special project monitoring, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) monitoring, Long Term Trend Lake Monitoring, and the Winnebago Waterways Water Quality monitoring program.

Currently, we have helped find 20 volunteers, with help from their families and friends, to monitor these sites.

While each monitoring program is slightly different, the goal of all these programs is to track changes in our local waters. The majority of samples are taken from May to October – with some lake monitoring occurring as early as two weeks after ice off.

Without our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to collect so much valuable information in so many places! Long term trends in water quality are very important to track changes throughout the watershed. This means we are looking for volunteers every single year to help continue these efforts.

Farmers, our urbanized areas, and shoreline residents are working hard to protect the water. Our volunteers get to help show the progress they’re making, in keeping our waters healthy!

And these efforts don’t stop in the counties mentioned above. Considerable monitoring work is occurring throughout the Fox-Wolf basin and the state!

Thank you volunteers!
