Over the course of November 2021, we hosted 4 winter sow workshops.
We got to partner with the girl scouts, 4-H, and a variety of other volunteers!
The goal of this project is to get more native plants on the landscape through an easy to do task.
We were able to get over 50 milk jugs cut and planted for the upcoming winter by our 30 volunteers. These milk jugs will live outside for the winter with hopes of seedlings sprouting come spring.
Seeds were donated by Cardo and collected by Emily Henrigillis, Winnebago Waterways program coordinator. Milk jugs were donated by the Lost Dauphin 4-H club, Ann Henrigillis, and volunteers participating in the program.
Volunteers will use their plants at in their home landscaping as well as returning unused plants to the Winnebago Waterways program.
The Winnebago Waterways program will also be hosting a number of milk jugs to ensure there are plants for a summer plant sale and use in shoreline buffers and rain gardens.
If you are unfamiliar with the winter sowing project, you can head on over to an earlier blog post.
We are looking forward to providing an update in the spring. For now, we enjoy the freeze and thaw of winter!
