Established in 2010, Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) accelerates efforts to protect and restore the largest system of fresh surface water in the world – the Great Lakes.
Since it’s inception, the multi-agency GLRI has provided funding to 16 federal organizations to strategically target the biggest threats to the Great Lakes ecosystem and to accelerate progress toward achieving long term goals through work categorized into five Focus Areas:
Focus Area 1 (FA1): Toxic Substances and Areas of Concern
Focus Area 2 (FA2): Invasive Species
Focus Area 3 (FA3): Nonpoint Source Pollution Impacts on Nearshore Health
Focus Area 4 (FA4): Habitats and Species
Focus Area 5 (FA5): Foundations for Future Restoration Action
GLRI provides opportunities for organizations to apply for grant funding through open application cycles. Fox-Wolf has been successful in obtaining grant funding to implement conservation practices through Focus Area 3: Non-Point Pollution Impacts. (Learn more about nonpoint pollution here) Since 2015, Fox-Wolf has secured seven large scale GLRI grants that have funded over $8 million dollars of projects that made a measureable impact on water quality! GLRI funding is a key to continuing to further the collaborative conservation work across our watershed.
