COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
Job Status- Exempt, Full time Flexible Schedule Hybrid Work (Appleton Office)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist leads Fox-Wolf’s communications strategy to increase awareness, engagement, and support for clean water initiatives. This role focuses on storytelling, digital engagement, and community outreach to grow membership, volunteers, and donors. The ideal candidate is a creative, results-driven communicator with strong expertise in social media and website management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media & Digital Engagement:
- Manage and grow social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
- Create engaging, high-quality content (posts, reels, stories, videos, graphics) that highlights watershed issues, restoration successes, events, volunteer opportunities, and calls to action.
- Track performance, analyze trends, and optimize campaigns
- Manage social media advertising campaigns and boosted posts within budget.
- Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely, professional manner that builds community and trust.
Website Design, Development & Management:
- Lead design improvements, and content updates for wordpress website.
- Design and develop user-friendly web pages, landing pages, and features to support campaigns, events, donations, and educational resources.
- Ensure SEO optimization, accessibility and functionality
- Integrate tools for email sign-ups, event registration and donation processing.
Content Creation & Storytelling:
- Work with staff and partners to turn technical water quality and restoration information into clear, engaging messages for diverse audiences including business, farmers, general public, and governmental.
- Write and produce compelling content including blog posts, newsletters, press releases, fact sheets, annual reports, and impact stories.
- Maintain a content calendar that aligns with priorities and seasonal watershed themes.
- Capture and edit photos/videos from events and field projects for multi-channel use.
Outreach & Support:
- Support email marketing campaigns and newsletter production.
- Assist with media relations, including pitching stories to local and regional outlets.
- Help plan and promote events, clean-ups, and educational programs.
- Contribute to grant reporting and fundraising communications.
- Track and report on communications metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 2+ years in communications with strong social media expertise
- Experience with WordPress and content creation tools (Canva, Adobe, video editing)
- Strong writing, storytelling, and organizational skills
- Passion for environmental conservation
Preferred
- Nonprofit or environmental experience
- Graphic design and video production skills
- Familiarity with SEO, analytics, and email marketing tools
Salary & Benefit Information:
- $55,000–$65,000, based on experience
- Hybrid schedule (up to 3 remote days/week)
- 15 PTO days + 9 holidays
- 3% 401(k) contribution after 90 days
- No health insurance provided
