| Practice Details

Native plants are workhorses when it comes to water quality, wildlife habitat, and soil health. They help soil and filter runoff, keeping soil on the field and out of surface water while also providing forage for wildlife.

USES: Prairie Plantings, Harvestable Buffers, Wildlife Habitat Plantings, Prairie & Filter Strips, Field Borders

Incentive Rates & Uses

Description: Establishing permanent, native, vegetative cover.

  • Example Use: Prairie Restoration or Habitat Planting
  • Practice Type: Ecological Restoration
  • Incentive Rate: $1,200/acre
  • Practice Lifespan: 5 years
  • Land Incentive: 5 years of average county rental rate

Description: Establishing permanent vegetation along the edges of a field

  • Example Use: Harvestable Buffer, Buffer Strips, Edge of Field Border
  • Practice Type: Ecological Restoration
  • Incentive Rate: $800/acre
  • Practice Lifespan: 10 years
  • Land Incentive: 10 years of average county rental rate

Description: A strip of permanent vegetation to remove pollutants (i.e. nutrients, sediment, chemicals) from runoff in or along field before entering a water body.

  • Example Use: Riparian Buffers and Runoff Filtration
  • Practice Type: Ecological Restoration
  • Incentive Rate: $800/acre
  • Practice Lifespan: 10 years
  • Land Incentive: 10 years of average county rental rate
