Winnebago Waterways Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Presents Update on Water Hyacinth

At the Wisconsin Lakes Conference on April 10-12th, property owners, lake managers, DNR employees, and concerned citizens gathered in Steven’s Point to learn and collaborate on Wisconsin’s lakes and the issues they are facing. Many talks offered information on basic lake ecology or updates on lake issues. One such talk was given by our own Winnebago Waterways Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Chris Acy. He gave an update on the water hyacinth monitoring and education efforts that are ongoing in the Winneconne area. As water hyacinth is an invasive species that is not established in the Winnebago Waterways and illegal to sell or possess in Wisconsin, there were a large number of convention attendees who were interested in hearing about this local issue.

The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance also had a booth at the Convention which highlighted the Winnebago Waterways Program and the Connecting Our Waters Program. With over 400 attendees, the Lakes Convention offered a unique opportunity to highlight the ongoing conservation efforts in the Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance!
