AIS Outreach Adds Invasive Species Awareness to Local Events

The Winnebago Waterways Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program recently exhibited at two local events in April. At the Oshksoh Corporation’s Sutainability Expo on April 16th, workers at Oshkosh Defense came to learn about different sustainability efforts happening in their own backyards. They also had the chance to talk to over 15 vendors about changes that will make their choices more sustainable for the environment. The event was a great opportunity to talk with a wide range of people covering folks who boat/fish every weekend to those that were very unfamiliar with invasive species. Most Expo goers were excited to learn about different AIS and what they can do to help prevent the spread of AIS!

On April 20th, the 1000 Islands Nature Center hosted a Wisconsin Conservation Event to kick off the start of spring and Earth Day! As part of the event, the Winnebago Waterways AIS Program hosted a table with AIS specimens and information. The AIS Coordinator Chris partnered with the Department of Natural Resources to also gave a brief presentation on common AIS and the steps everyone can take to prevent their spread to new lakes and rivers! It was a blast to see so many kids and adults want to help protect our lakes!
