Due to ongoing construction and related safety concerns, the trail at Terrell’s Island will remain partially closed for 2021. The Butte des Morts Conservation Club who owns the property and maintains the trail, will be opening a portion of the trail. The “Kachur Trail” will be open beginning on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 from sunrise to 1 hour before sunset.

Why was the trail closed?
Samers Bay Breakwall Project – To help improve water quality, restore habitat and create substantial water exchange to improve water quality within Terrell Island.

How will this be done?
By removing 2,200 feet of the existing breakwall and removing rock around 5 islands inside Terrell Island to build the new breakwall to prevent erosion.

Why is only part of the trail opening?
Safety concerns with construction from the breakwall project.

When is this project expected to be completed?
Anticipated project end date is April 2022.

Will there be bridges to connect the two trails?
There will not\be bridges to connect the two trails. The expense of the bridges is a big factor, along with maintenance.
