Members of NEWSC’s Stormwater Quality Management Committee attended the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Annual Conference on October 21st to give a presentation about Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) implementation. The purpose of the session was to emphasize the work being done in the municipal sector to improve stormwater quality. One of the requirements of the municipal stormwater permit is to meet pollution reduction goals as outlined in an approved restoration plan such as a TMDL. Village of Little Chute Engineer Chris Murawski detailed the strategies the Village of Little Chute is employing to meet those goals, as well as the costs associated with stormwater management. Anna Bartsch, NEWSC Coordinator, addressed the stormwater issues affecting urban waters, regulatory requirements of the MS4 permit, and benefits of regional collaboration to meet permit requirements.

Committee members had spent months developing the presentation leading up to the Conference. NEWSC reached approximately 35 people – mostly elected officials – with this session on TMDL implementation.
